Liat Shalom

Liat Shalom

Shalom Design is the name of Liat Shalom’s company. Originally from Israel, Liat is a freelance illustrator/animator and graphic designer working out of Toronto, Canada, straight out of her igloo/studio. Liat Shalom means “you’re my peace” and she chose to name her company Shalom Design, in an attempt to build on that peaceful name and her hippy, Jewish, gypsy immigrant roots.

Liat is about to graduate from OCAD University with a BA in Illustration and Animation. Liat has a background in New Media studies at Ryerson University and Printmaking from Dawson College in Montreal, Quebec. Her work arrays from Animation and Filmmaking to Illustration, and Graphic Design, She creates gallery work alongside commercial work and always has something to say.

Liat strives to create art that evokes thought, by juxtaposing humor and reality along with underlying political occurrences. Her work aims to encourage discourse, evoke thought, and raise awareness to issues that plague the world. “I mean haven’t we suffered enough already?” Specializing in Jewish Themes in her work, she is a self-proclaimed “jack of all trades, master of whatever you need”. Like a perfectly simmered kneidelach, Liat’s work aims to satisfy a void she feels that there is in the modern Jewish Art Scene that connects illustration and humor together with politics and religion and aims to bring it to the foreground of pop culture.
