Ann-Marie Cheung

My inspiration comes from mythology and the natural world. Many of my paintings explore goddess images, visually dreamlike and translucent. I mainly create using acrylic on canvas or board but also explore mixed media, encaustic and glass.

Early in my artistic career, my work was full of angst and suffering, and was expressed with acrylics on large canvasses. Images explored women’s position in society and dealt with concepts of censorship and freedom. The “blue” goddess was present in much of my work.

I graduated from the Ontario College of Art in 1984 from the general studies program and in 2012 obtained The Royal Conservatory, Learning Through the Arts® (LTTA) Artist-Educator Foundations Course Certificate. I’ve had numerous exhibits across Canada and my work is in private and public collection around the world.

I took a long break from art when I started my freelance business of multimedia and website design in 1997. I also got very busy raising two awesome children. So my life has come full circle now and I’m returning to what truly makes my heart sing… creating art.
